Words from The French Pantry

We selected Bordier butter for many reasons.

The first is that it comes from Brittany, where we are from.

The second, because it's commonly known as the best butter in the world, making it a must-have for chefs.

The milk that Maison Bordier uses comes exclusively from human-scale farms producing preservative free milk within 60 miles of the processing workshop, between Brittany, Normandy and Pays de la Loire. It takes 12 times longer to make than regular butter.

Jean-Yves Bordier is the only craftsman who continues to employ the age-old technique of working churned butter in a wooden barrel and hand-blending it with delicate sea salt. In this process of kneading and salting, known endearingly as "crying," the butter releases water, which intensifies its taste, deepens its complexity, and results in a creamy texture.

Words from Bordier

It expresses the purity of the taste of cream, the iodine of the Breton country pastures, and the specific characteristics of the terroir which evolve with the seasons.

Ingredients : Unsalted Butter (100%)

Note about your butter

• Shipping : butter is shipped in a triple-layer box liner with insulation and ice packs, providing up to 48 hours of protection.

Due to the specialized packaging and expedited shipping required, butter does not qualify for free shipping. However, adding non-perishable products to your cart will grant you access to free shipping for those items.

Please note that we ship from Monday to Thursday (Cutoff Time : 11AM PT) for 1-day delivery, to avoid any weekend delays.

If Your Butter Arrives Softened : Don't worry—it's still perfectly safe to eat! Butter, especially salted varieties, is resilient and can stay at room temperature for some time without spoiling.

Butter will arrive as a fresh (not frozen) product.

Upon Arrival : Store in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness and restore the firmness of your butter

Bordier Butter : It may look like it has melted into the paper, but this is simply a natural coloration that develops over time. It's part of its unique, artisanal character and does not affect its quality.

Best Before date follows the European format (DD/MM/YYYY) and is not an Expiration date. It reflects the period of optimal flavor and texture, not food safety. Over time, it may slowly lose flavor or turn slightly bitter—but that typically requires improper storage or many more weeks after this date.

Bordier is delivered to us twice a month from France, each batch carrying a Best Before Date of no more than two weeks. Any remaining stock past this date is offered at a discounted price.

Room Temperature : Butter (especially salted butter) can be left out for 1-2 days in a butter dish.

Storage advice : +35°F / +43°F.

Freezing : Butter can be frozen for up to 4 months—wrap tightly in plastic or foil to prevent freezer burn.

Excellent!

I bought this butter for my husband after he had the butter at the Hotel Bel Air. He loves butter in general and adores yours specifically!

We are so glad to hear that you and your husband love the butter. We hope to continue providing you both with excellent butter for years to come :)

Nothing impressive..

I bought this butter along with the black truffle version. I haven’t tried the truffle one yet, but I did try this one and was expecting a more distinct or unique flavor based on the price and branding. It tasted fine, but nothing really stood out—it didn’t feel much different from regular high-quality butter.
In total I ordered two small sticks from the French Pantry and paid around $80 total, with no samples or extras included, which was a little disappointing for a premium product at this price point.
I love discovering artisanal foods, but for the cost, I was hoping for either more flavor impact or a little extra attention to the experience.

Hi V.O.,

Thank you for your honest feedback—we really appreciate you taking the time to share it. The unsalted Bordier butter is intentionally subtle to highlight the quality of the cream and the craftsmanship behind it, but we understand it may not stand out as much in flavor, especially compared to the flavored versions.

We’re sorry to hear the experience didn’t quite match your expectations. We strive to offer both exceptional products and service, and we’ll take your comments to heart as we continue improving.

We hope the truffle butter brings a more impactful taste. If there’s anything we can do, feel free to reach out—we’re here for you!

Bordier Butter

I have had Bordier Butter in France. The flavor of the butter sent to me was off. I don’t knot if it as old or not handled correctly. When I got the package the cold packs were still cold and the butter was also cold. Just the flavor was off.

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm really sorry to hear that the butter didn't meet you expectations. We take quality seriously and are glad to hear it arrived cold, but we understand that flavor is everything—especially with a product like Bordier. Sometimes batches can vary slightly due to the seasons. Please don’t hesitate to reach out directly—we’d be happy to look into it further or help find a better match for your taste.
