Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to shop with us, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology. This page explains what we have done, what we know is not finished, and how to reach a person if the website gets in your way.
If the website is a barrier, we will take your order directly
You do not have to fight with the site to buy from us. Email contact@thefrenchpantryca.com with what you would like and we will take the order, answer questions about any product, and arrange delivery. We aim to reply within one business day.
If you hit a barrier anywhere on the site, tell us at the same address. Describe the page and what happened, and we will fix it or find another way to get you what you need. We treat these as priority messages, not suggestions.
What we have done
We use the Accessibly App, which adds a toolbar letting you change how the site looks and behaves in your browser. It can enlarge text up to three times, enlarge the cursor, invert colors, adjust contrast and brightness, switch to grayscale, hide images, apply a reading line or reading mask, switch to more legible or dyslexia-friendly fonts, highlight links, simplify the page layout, stop animations, and read the page aloud. The site can also be navigated by keyboard using Tab, Shift+Tab and Enter.
We are also writing proper descriptions for our product photographs, so that anyone using a screen reader can tell our products apart rather than being told only that there is an object in the picture.
What is not finished
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and we are not there yet on every page. A toolbar that adjusts appearance is useful, but it does not by itself make a website fully accessible, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. Older pages, content from third parties, and customer-submitted content such as reviews may not meet the standard.
We are a two-person business and this is ongoing work rather than a finished project. We would genuinely like to hear where the site fails you, because that is how we decide what to fix next.
