Words from The French Pantry

We selected Bordier butter for many reasons.

The first is that it comes from Brittany, where we are from.

The second, because it's commonly known as the best butter in the world, making it a must-have for chefs.

The milk that Maison Bordier uses comes exclusively from human-scale farms producing preservative free milk within 60 miles of the processing workshop, between Brittany, Normandy and Pays de la Loire. It takes 12 times longer to make than regular butter.

Jean-Yves Bordier is the only craftsman who continues to employ the age-old technique of working churned butter in a wooden barrel and hand-blending it with delicate sea salt. In this process of kneading and salting, known endearingly as "crying," the butter releases water, which intensifies its taste, deepens its complexity, and results in a creamy texture.

Shelf life : up to 4 months when frozen.
Note : Best-by date follows the European format (DD/MM/YYYY).

Words from Bordier

Meeting with the Johnnies and Jennies of Roscoff, 2016.

Union of two everyday Breton products: butter, a vital pleasure and onion, one of the delicacies that the land provides in the Roscoff region. Salty and sweet notes, smoothness of the cream and flaky onion texture. On a flank steak, a potato fricassee, with an oyster, on toast or on a pancake, in a salty crumble!

Ingredients : Unsalted Butter, Roscoff AOP Onion, Salt.

Storage advice : Store at +35°F / +43°F.

Note about your butter

• Shipping : butter is shipped in a triple-layer box liner with insulation and ice packs, providing up to 48 hours of protection.

Due to the specialized packaging and expedited shipping required, butter does not qualify for free shipping. However, adding non-perishable products to your cart will grant you access to free shipping for those items.

Please note that we ship from Monday to Thursday for 1-day delivery and Monday to Wednesday for 2-day delivery only, to avoid any weekend delays.

If Your Butter Arrives Softened : Don't worry—it's still perfectly safe to eat! Butter, especially salted varieties, is resilient and can stay at room temperature for some time without spoiling.

Butter is shipped as a fresh (not frozen) product.

Upon Arrival : Store in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness and restore the firmness of your butter

Bordier Butter : It may look like it has melted into the paper, but this is simply a natural coloration that develops over time. It's part of its unique, artisanal character and does not affect its quality.

Room Temperature : Butter (especially salted butter) can be left out for 1-2 days in a butter dish.

Freezing : Butter can be frozen for up to 4 months—wrap tightly in plastic or foil to prevent freezer burn.
