Words from The French Pantry

We selected Bordier butter for many reasons.

The first is that it comes from Brittany, where are from.

The second, because it's commonly known as the best butter in the world, making it a must-have for chefs.

The milk that Maison Bordier uses comes exclusively from human-scale farms producing preservative free milk within 60 miles of the processing workshop, between Brittany, Normandy and Pays de la Loire. It takes 12 times longer to make than regular butter.

Jean-Yves Bordier is the only craftsman who continues to employ the age-old technique of working churned butter in a wooden barrel and hand-blending it with delicate sea salt. In this process of kneading and salting, known endearingly as "crying," the butter releases water, which intensifies its taste, deepens its complexity, and results in a creamy texture.

An idea from a pastry chef friend, 2006

Bordier Raspberry Butter is all about surprise: a dialogue between the saltiness of our butter and the tangy notes of raspberry — the meeting of two wonderfully complementary flavors. It pairs beautifully with breakfast on a brioche, with lunch on red meat, or with dessert in your shortbread cookies.

Ingredients : Unsalted Butter, Raspberries, and Salt.

Note about your butter

• Shipping : butter is shipped in a triple-layer box liner with insulation and ice packs, providing up to 48 hours of protection.

Due to the specialized packaging and expedited shipping required, butter does not qualify for free shipping. However, adding non-perishable products to your cart will grant you access to free shipping for those items.

Please note that we ship from Monday to Thursday (Cutoff Time : 11AM PT) for 1-day delivery, to avoid any weekend delays.

If Your Butter Arrives Softened : Don't worry—it's still perfectly safe to eat! Butter, especially salted varieties, is resilient and can stay at room temperature for some time without spoiling.

Butter will arrive as a fresh (not frozen) product.

Upon Arrival : Store in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness and restore the firmness of your butter

Bordier Butter : It may look like it has melted into the paper, but this is simply a natural coloration that develops over time. It's part of its unique, artisanal character and does not affect its quality.

Best-by date follows the European format (DD/MM/YYYY) and is not an Expiration date. It reflects the period of optimal flavor and texture, not food safety. Over time, it may slowly lose flavor or turn slightly bitter—but that typically requires improper storage or many more weeks after this date.

Room Temperature : Butter (especially salted butter) can be left out for 1-2 days in a butter dish.

Storage advice : +35°F / +43°F.

Freezing : Butter can be frozen for up to 4 months—wrap tightly in plastic or foil to prevent freezer burn.
